History
Founded during the 1897 copper boom when Ed Haggarty discovered rich copper deposits in the Sierra Madre Range. The North American Copper Company built an aerial tramway 16 miles long to carry ore from the mines. Copper bust of 1908 devastated the town. The Grand Encampment Museum preserves the mining heritage with 15 relocated historic buildings.
