History

One of the earliest mining camps in northwest Colorado. Named after a distinctive volcanic peak. Gold was discovered in 1866 but the remote location limited growth. Served briefly as the Routt County seat.

What remains: Semi-ghost. A few buildings remain. Small community.

Access: County Road 129 from Steamboat Springs (about 30 miles). Paved/gravel.
