History
Named after Lawrence Purcell, a Greeley real estate man. The Union Pacific Railroad ran a track to Purcell ending in a 'Y' turnaround. A major cattle shipping center. During the 1930s Dust Bowl, the USDA relocated many families to Grand Junction. The town simply 'ran out of water.'
