History
Established in 1862 as a stage stop along the Overland Trail. Served as the second seat of Weld County from 1868 to 1882. Originally called Cherokee City. An 1869 diary described it as 'lonesome and desolate.' When the Union Colony (Greeley) was established nearby, Latham lost its importance.
