History
Platted in 1888 along the Colorado and Wyoming Railroad, named for George Andrew Raymer, assistant chief engineer of the CB&Q railroad. Original settlers came via the Homestead Act. Drought in 1889-1890 and the Panic of 1893 killed the town; buildings were dismantled by area ranchers. Revived and incorporated in 1919, reaching 417 residents in the 1920s. The 1930s drought and Depression caused another population crash. The USPS uses 'New Raymer' while state records use 'Raymer.'
