History

Named after C.D. Buckingham, a railroad superintendent, when the railroad arrived in 1888. The town was purchased from the railroad in 1910. At its peak it had a depot, hotel, school, garage, bank, grocery store, hardware store, and blacksmith shop. Most buildings were gone by the 1930s; prairie fires destroyed what remained. Post office operated from 1888 to 1966.
