Sligo
Ghost town in Weld County, Colorado · Eastern Plains district
History
Named after Sligo, Ireland. The CB&Q Railroad built through the area in 1887. A plat was filed in 1908 and formally recorded in 1912. Residents built substantial infrastructure including a school, church, two grocery stores, hotel, lumberyard, and cement block factory—all based on an ambitious irrigation scheme. When the irrigation plan failed and the 1930s drought struck, the town could not survive. Abandoned by 1930, post office closed 1941.
