History
Founded in 1880, Ashcroft briefly rivaled Aspen with 3,500 residents, two newspapers, and 20 saloons. When the D&RG Railroad chose to route through Aspen instead in 1887, Ashcroft was doomed. By 1890 only 100 people remained. Managed by Aspen Historical Society since 1974.
