History

Called the 'City of Mines' because gold mines were literally within city limits. Victor once had 12,000 residents and was the commercial hub of the Cripple Creek district. Lowell Thomas (famous broadcaster) grew up here. Jack Dempsey washed dishes at a local hotel. Today about 400 residents live among remarkably well-preserved Victorian buildings.
