History

Platted 1894 during the Cripple Creek mining boom, named for railroad man W.K. Gillett. The Midland Terminal Railway reached town July 4, 1894. Grew to 1,000 residents serving the gold district. Abandoned by the 1940s when a flash flood wiped out remaining structures.
