History
Fort Saint Vrain was built in 1837 by Ceran de Hault de Lassus de Saint-Vrain. Gold discovery along the South Platte in 1858 sparked prosperity. Served as the original seat of Weld County under both the Territory of Jefferson (1859) and Territory of Colorado (1861). The county seat moved to Latham in 1868 and the post office relocated to Platteville in 1875.
