History
The town grew up near the famous Fort Laramie, a key military post and fur trading center on the Oregon Trail. The fort was established in 1834 and became a military post in 1849. The surrounding town served travelers, soldiers, and settlers. Today about 83 people live here near the Fort Laramie National Historic Site.
