History
A Union Pacific Railroad town that boomed to 5,000 during construction. Three massive stone charcoal kilns (built by Moses Byrne) are the surviving landmarks, used to produce charcoal for iron smelting. The railroad bypassed the town in 1901 when a tunnel was built. The kilns are on the National Register of Historic Places.
