History

Site of the first major lode gold discovery in Colorado on January 15, 1859 -- the Gold Run discovery. Reached 1,500 at peak. A second boom followed the 1872 discovery of tellurium. Today an unincorporated community with about 218 residents and the historic Gold Hill Inn.
