History

One of Colorado's earliest gold discoveries. Originally called Gold Dirt, established in winter 1860-61 by John Q. Rollins. Reborn as Perigo in the 1890s, named after the rich Perigo lode. Site of some of the very first 1859 gold discoveries in the territory.
