History

A gold rush town with over 1,000 residents, several hotels, a dance hall, five sawmills, and 150 cabins. Silver discoveries in 1881 brought renewed prosperity, but the 1893 crash ended it. In 1957, Montgomery Reservoir was built, flooding the 95-acre townsite. Colorado's second 'underwater ghost town' after Dillon.
