History

Named for prospector Felix Leavick. The Hilltop Mine at 12,900 ft produced over $600,000 in silver ore in 1888 alone. Colorado's longest aerial tramway (13,000 ft with 125 ore buckets) connected the mine to the mill. The Fairplay, South Park and Hilltop Railroad was built to serve the town in 1896.
